About Alex Hearst

I come from a musical family…my mother and grandma played piano, my father had a huge record collection and I learnt to play guitar at an early age. My first concert was Show and Tell, Grade 4. I played Skip to My Lou. At 19, I started out as a singer, guitarist and songwriter in the Melbourne music scene. I played in dozens of bands (some of them were even quite good), and performed at thousands of pubs and clubs. 'Like Dean Martin with an Aussie accent,' a music critic said in Beat Magazine, 1993. I have appeared at many major events, including the MCG Boxing Day Test, Royal Melbourne Show, Moomba and the Port Fairy Folk Festival. And I have toured Australia and performed overseas. In 1999, I visited my grandma in an aged care home. My grandma told me to play a few tunes that she'd taught me as a kid, like 'Side by Side,' 'You are My Sunshine,' Hey Good Lookin,' etc. Then the lifestyle coordinator suggested I perform for older people – professionally . And this is what I have done full time for 10 years now. I perform concerts at over 100 organizations (in Melbourne and Victoria, in Australia!), as well as a few pubs and festivals. I also do fundraisers for local not-for-profit orgs. I think I have the best job in the world. What's better than helping people to join in and sing along and have fun? I am married, we have two young children and we live in Ocean Grove, VIC, Australia! |
